People of Sanborn were saddened Friday when they learned that Mr. C. C. Dean, old and highly respected citizen of our community bad passed away shortly before noon. Although not in his usual good health for the past few weeks, Mr. Dean had been around at his usual activities until just the day before his death. He had been to his farm, which is managed by his son, Howard, on Thursday morning; he became ill and took to his bed immediately on arriving home, and shortly afterwards lapsed into a coma from which he did not rally and passed away about 24 hours later.

Chester Coleman Dean was born at Emerald Grove, Wisconsin, on February 15, 1863, and passed away at his home in Sanborn on August 20, 1943, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 25 days.

Mr. Dean grew to manhood in Wisconsin, where he attended Beloit College. On September 1887, he was united in marriage to Hattie Mae Eastman of Lathrop, Pa. After residing six years on his father's farm at Emerald Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Dean moved to the Dean farm east of Sanborn, where the family resided many years.

Soon after moving to O'Brien county, the Dean family became members of the First Presbyterian Church of Sanborn and maintained a membership for twenty years until moving to Ames in 1915, and as long as his health permitted, was a faithful attendant at church. October 6, 1940, with his wife, his membership was again brought to the Sanborn Presbyterian church of which he was a faithful member until his death.

Mr. Dean, who has been in failing health for several months, has been tenderly cared for by his daughter, Grace, who recently retired after twenty years service in the Army Nurse Corps.

He is survived by his wife; one son, Howard, of Sanborn; five daughters: (Anna) Mrs. Earl Kemp of Janesville, Wis., (Elma) Mrs. W. E. Simonsen of Quimby, la., Grace, at home,(Imogene) Mrs. F. O. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Dean celebrated their golden wedding anniversary six years ago.

God has taken him to his eternal reward. With Joy we say, "The Lord has given, the Lord has taken way; Blessed be the name of the Lord."

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon in the Presbyterian church by the pastor, the Rev. R. J. Rutt. Ed Huibregtse and John eGooyer, accompanied by Miss Marguerite Glazier, sang "Going Down the Valley," "Lead Kindly Light" and "Rock of Ages."
