Darlene (Oetken) Lange was born on April 26, 1930, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa. She was baptized in September 1930 and confirmed in the Lutheran faith in April of 1944 at St. John’s in Craig, Iowa. She attended country school through 8th grade. As a young adult, Darlene moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where she worked for a dry cleaner.
On August 19, 1956, she was united in marriage to James W. Lange. To this union three daughters were born. James and Darlene made their home on the family farm east of Germantown. After James passed away in 1979, Darlene made her home in Paullina and worked at several jobs. Most notably she worked for over 20 years at United Foods.
Darlene was a member of St. John’s Lutheran in Germantown for over 60 years. She had
been a member of the Ladies Aid and a braille worker. She enjoyed spending time with her family, going to dances, and visiting with her friends.Left to cherish her memory are her family: Janice (Dan) Van Beek, Joyce (Steve) Paulsen, Pam (Mike) Roling. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Dustin, Shalene, Alyssa, Brody, Ayva, and Carsyn Van Beek; Beau, Jenna, Isla, Harrison, Abraham, and Elijah Van Beek; Breana and Chas Biery; Larie, Nathan, Colton, and Case Foresman; Ryan and Alissa Paulsen; Megan and Mitch Roling; her sister, Irene Pralle, and a
host of relatives and friends.She was preceded in death by her husband James; her parents, Rank and Minnie Oetken; in-laws, George and Emilie Lange; 7 siblings and a great-grandson Emery Van Beek.
