Margaret Lange 1917-2012

Margaret Lange, the daughter of John and Anna (Hart) Barry, was born April 23, 1917 in Marcus, Iowa. Upon the death of her mother in 1918, Margaret lived with her grandparents until the age of 11 in Ottumwa, where she received her early childhood education. She then returned to Marcus and lived with her father. She graduated from Marcus Holy Name High School in 1935 and worked for the Marcus News.

On November 25, 1937, Margaret was united in marriage to Lesley E. “Butch” Lange in Germantown. Their entire married life was spent in the Germantown area, where they farmed from 1940 to 1982. Upon retirement, the couple remained on the family farm. Butch passed away on December 25, 1990 and Margaret continued living on the farm until moving into Paullina in 1997. Margaret passed away on Monday, February 20, 2012 at the Baum Harmon Mercy Hospital in Primghar, Iowa reaching the age of 94 years, 9 months and 27 days.

Margaret was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church. She held various positions in the Ladies Aid and LWML and was a member of the Silver and Gold group. In addition to enjoying participating in many church and community affairs over the years, she especially enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and attended their many and various sports activities whenever possible.

Margaret is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Janet Lange of Paullina, Iowa and David and Carol Lange of Clermont, Florida; a daughter-in-law, Carol Lange of Bellevue, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Julie and her husband, Ted Rodgers of Tempe, Arizona; Joel of Bellevue, Nebraska; Mike and his wife, Michelle and Mark and his wife, Kari all of Paullina; Dr. Lori Lange of Jacksonville, Florida; Alan and his wife, Jill of Winterset, Iowa; and Robert of AFB, Florida; seven great-grandchildren, Kelly, Beau, Brett, Dani Jo and her husband, Eric; Madison, JC and Isaiah; great-great-granddaughter, Alexis; and a sister-in-law, Patti Barry; also other relatives and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lesley; a son, Robert; great-great-granddaughter, Trista Kay Heittritter and two brothers, John Barry Jr. and Dr. Richard Barry.
