Laura West, daughter of John and Amanda Stanover West, was born at Primghar, Iowa, on June 11, 1885. She spent her early years in the Primghar area and attended the rural schools of O'Brien County. For the last forty-three years, she has made her home in Hartley, Iowa.

On February 19 of this year, she had the misfortune of falling and breaking her hip. She was taken to Iowa City for surgery, and after a short stay there, she was transferred to the McCroskey Nursing Home in Hartley. Her last nineteen days were spent at the Hartley Community Hospital where she was taken when it seemed that her health was failing. She passed away late Saturday evening, May 16, at the age of 78 years, 11 months, and 5 days.

One brother, George West of Elk City, Oklahoma, and other relatives survive her. She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, two sisters and two half brothers.

Services were held Tuesday, May 19, from Baumgarten Funeral Home in Hartley with Rev. D.D. Samuelson officiating.

Pall bearers were Darrell West, Robert West, Olive Jenness, Otto Liedtke, Clair Berry, and Harm Kruse. Burial was made in Pleasant View Cemetery.
