Nickey (Nick) J. Axdahl, 65, of Le Mars, died Friday Aug. 1, 2014.

Nick was born June 10, 1949, in Sioux City. He attended Paullina High School, in Paullina, and graduated in 1969.

He attended Golden Valley Lutheran College in Minneapolis, Minn., and then barber school, barbering for a number of years in Le Mars.

He volunteered many years at the Plymouth County Fair and was also a volunteer storm spotter for the Le Mars area.

He loved the outdoors and spent hours walking the Floyd River and Miller Creek looking for ancient bison bones and other artifacts.

He is survived by family and many friends.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents, Martin and Wanda Axdahl, of Paullina and his brother Dennis Axdahl, of Des Moines.

A family memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14, at Mill Creek State Park in Paullina. Cremation was previously handled under the direction of Nelson-Berger Northside Chapel in Sioux City.
