HENRY FREDERICK PETERS

A heart attack early last Monday morning, May 1, ended the life of Henry Peters at the age of 78 years, 8 months, and 11 days.

A resident of the town of Hartley since 1930, he was one of our most respected and honored citizens. The funeral was held yesterday, May 3, from St. Paul's Lutheran Church, of which he was a loyal and devoted member, with Rev. A. C. Weber, the local Lutheran pastor, officiating. The pallbearers were the husbands of three granddaughters and three grandsons: Albert Florke, Bernhard Bunger, Raymond Tapper, Lester Peters, Forrest Zinn, and Donald Peters. The body was laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery.

Henry Frederick Peters was born on August 22, 1871, at Spragueville, in Jackson County, Iowa, where he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On February 20, 1895, he was united in marriage with Elizabeth Ostert, his surviving widow. The first four year of their married life were spent on a farm near Spragueville. In the spring of the year 1899 they moved to O'Brien County. Living on rented farms for the first 12 years, They were then able to purchase their own place in the year 1912. In the year 1930 the deceased moved to a home he had purchased in the town of Hartley. In this home it was his privilege to celebrate his 50th wedding anniversary on February 20, 1945.

Survivng mourners include his widow, five children: Mrs. Ida Zinn, of Alta; Henry, Jr., Edward, Catherine, local residents, Arthur Peters, of Westbrook, Minnesota; two brothers: John and Chris Peters, of Maquoketa, Iowa four sisters: Mrs. Snor [sic Schnoor] and Mrs. Minnie Burmahl, of Maquoketa, Mrs. Lena Ostert, of Puckwana, S. D.; Mrs. Anna Copp, of Los Angeles, Calif.; 11 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and many other relatives and a host of friends.
