Edward Carl William Guse was born on the second day of May of the same year he was incorporated into the church of the Lord thru Holy Baptism. After having received instructions he was confirmed on the 9th day of April 1911 and admitted to the table of the Lord. After his confirmation he remained at his parental home and became a strong support to his parents, for his health left nothing to be desired.

On the 5th day of June of this year he was called as many others to military registration. And when he was called with seventy-five other comrades on the 6th day of September to Camp Dodge, Des Moines, Iowa, where he was to be instructed for the Medical Corps 105, he answered this call with pleasure.

Already at his departure from Primghar to Camp Dodge, an indisposition set in with the young man which later proved itself as a symptom of Spanish influenza. But his condition improved, though at Indianapolis, Indiana to where the deceased meanwhile was transported, the sickness took a change for the worse.

In the course of Monday, October 14th his relatives received a delayed telegram, stating that his condition was critical and his recovery doubtful. On the same evening his father took the train for Indianapolis to see his son and to give him fatherly comfort, but he had not the least idea that he would not see his son alive any more. For it pleased the Lord over life and death to call this young man but of this life on the same Monday in the evening at about 7 o'clock. According to medical testimony he died of bronchial pneumonia.

He reached the age of twenty-one years, five months and twelve days. He is survived by his parents, four sisters, of which one is married, and one brother.

The funeral services were hald at the home of the deceased on Saturday afternoon, October 19th at 3 o'clock. Rev. J. Deguisne gave an address in German and officiated at the house while Rev. Wm. Deguisne also gave an address in English and officiated at the grave. The mourners were greatly comforted by the choir which sang the hymn entitled "Nearer My Gdd to Thee." The pallbearers were: Bemhard Guse, Edgar Kowalke, Paul Zinn, Walter Krueger, August Steuck and Edward Marquardt.

Peace be to his ashes and may the Lord our faithful God comfort the survivors with His mighty and faith-strengthening consolation.
