Frank Leroy Putnam was born in Hardin County, Iowa, near Eldora, Jan. 31, 1881. In 1882, with his parents, he came to O'Brien County where he grew to manhood.

In March, 1899 he came to Hartley and worked for his father, later going into business with his father.

In 1902, he was united in marriage to Miss Ida Lowery; To this union were born two children, Bernice, age 12, and Louise, age 9.

Besides these, he leaves to mourn, an aged mother, two sisters, Mrs. Clarence McDonald and Mrs. Jack Harness and two brothers, Ed. and Lew all of Hartley.

Mr. Putnam was a devoted father and husband, always thinking of the comforts of his family first. He had a very sunny disposition and was kind and charitable to the poor and needy. His large acquaintance made for him a score of friends.

His sudden call from this earth leaves one of the happiest homes in Hartley broken up. But we are promised in God's word that He will comfort the fatherless and widow in their affliction and we commend his soul to our Heavenly Father; who has promised us that he will come again and receive us unto Himself.

The funeral service was in charge of Rev. Tompkins and was held at the home Wednesday at 2:00 p. m. W.R. Wagner, Wilbur Johnson, Don Shonkwiler and Lew Wagner sang the opening and closing numbers and Mrs. G. L. Lighter sang a solo just before the sermon. The services were largely attended. The floral offerings were numerous and appropriate. The following relatives were present at the funeral: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Lowery; Mr. and Mrs. Jay Lowery and Mr. and Mrs. Willard Lowery of Sanborn; Mr. Joe Dring of Sheldon; Mrs. Geo. Lowery of Waterberry, Neb.; Mrs; Geo. Cobb and son Frank from Eldora; Mrs. O.J. King and Mrs. Bert Moore from Eldora; Mrs. and Mr. Will Cobb and daughter Ona from Rossie; Mr. and Mrs. Clateon Cobb from Greenville; and Vell Cobb and son Herbert from Sutherland.
