CHRIS LINDER AND ALVIN HILKER DIE OF PNEUMONIA
BOTH BOYS ARE SOLDIERS OVERSEAS
Both Left Here Last July for Camp Gordon and Landed in England About October First.

More homes in this community have been made desolate this week. More brave boys have yielded their lives for the cause of humanity and Paullina and vicinity are mourning again with the grief-stricken families, because the sons who went out in all the strength of manhood are dead and will return no more.
----------
ALVIN J. HILKER Mr. and Mrs. Edward Hilker were notified Tuesday of the death of their son, Alvin J. Hilker, who died on October 9th. This comes as an especially hard blow to the family for it has only been a month since they received the sad news of the death of their other son, Ed Hilker, who died in England.

Alvin left at the same time with his brother, in July and went first to Camp Gordon and then sailed for overseas in September, landing in England on about the first of October. He was sick when he landed and gradually grew worse until he died on October 9th, just one day before the death of Chris Linder. Thus another young life has been taken from our midst and added to the great army above.

Alvin J. Linder, the youngest son of three sons of Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Hilker, was born March 14, 1890, and was therefore twenty-two years old last spring. He was born and raised in Paullina, where he attended the public school and graduated with the class of 1913, in which he held highest honors. He then attended Morningside College for a year, after which he assisted his father in the carpenter business. It was his intention to attend college again next year if he was spared, but this was not to be.

He was a member of the Modern Woodmen lodge and was attendant in the Methodist Sunday School.

The message stated that he died of bronchial pneumonia.
