Verness Tanner, son of John and Ida Beagle Tanner, was born August 9. 1903 in Archer. Iowa He attended schools in the Archer area

On November 4, 1926 he was united in marriage to Carrie Anderson in Sheldon. After their marriage the couple settled in O'Brien County before moving to California for a short period of time They returned to Iowa and Primghar in 1940

While in Primghar Verness was employed for many years by the Illinois Central Railroad until ill health forced his retirement in 1965 He continued to make his home in Primghar and for the last several months had lived at the Primghar Care Center.

He passed away at the Care Center on Tuesday, February 9. 1988. reaching the age of 84 years, six months

He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar. the Primghar Senior Citizens and at one time was active in the Boy Scouts in Primghar

Verness leaves to cherish his memory his wife. Carrie of Primghar: one daughter. Edith Mae and husband Birdette Swanson of Sioux City; two sons, Wayne and daughter in-law Elfrieda of Albuquerque. N M . and Larry and daughter-in-law Carol of Santa Maria. Ca . 14 grandchildren. 21 great-grandchildren: two great-great-grandchildren, one sister. Mrs Sara Huff of Waverly, also many nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends He was preceded in death by his parents. 14 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services were held Saturday. Feb 13. 1988 at 10 30 a m at Grare Lutheran Church. Primghar. for Verness Tanner Rev James Mueller officiated Pallbearers were Steve Tanner. Danny Welsh. Dale Hansen. Jim Welsh. Elmer Otle. and Richard Smidt Hymns "Have Thine Own Way" and "Jesus Savior Pilot Me" were sung by Brad Iloppe, accompanied by Donna Struve Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, with Gaudian Eldridge Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
