It was while residing at this place that he met and married Emma Dorathy Timmerman. Shortly after their marriage they moved to a farm near Blair [illegible] Benton County, Iowa. In the spring of 1884 he, with his family, moved to O'Brien county, settling on the east half of section 23, Union Township.

On account of poor health he decided to move to a warmer climate [illegible]. [summarizing poor text clues]He resided in Pueblo Colorado until his death.

He was preceded in death by his wife, who died in 1916 [sic]. The summons of death came to the deceased March 9, 1921, at Pueblo, Colo.

His remains were brought to Paullina for interment. Funeral services were held at the home of his son Genos Orthmann last Sabbath afternoon, Rev. Williams of the Presbyterian church officiating. Interment was in the Prairie View Cemetery.

For years he and his good wife endured the hardships of pioneering. But they stuck it out and their industry and thrift were rewarded with prosperity and many close friendships.
