John C Clausen (1874-1946)

John C. Clausen, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hans C. Clausen, was born in Germany July 16th, 1874, one of eleven children. He was baptized and confirmed his faith in Christ and the living God while still living in Germany. At the age of 16 he came to America and settled at Calumet, Iowa.

On October 2nd, 1902 he was united in marriage to Handgen Orthmann at Worthington, Minn. Four children, two sons and two daughters were born to this marriage.

For about 20 years he was manager of a lumber company at Bigelow, Minn. In 1936 the family moved to Hartley where he was a contractor until the time of his death. Of a family of eleven children, he and two brothers came to America. One of the brothers, George, preceded him in death.

J. C. Clausen passed away early Saturday morning, April 27th, at the age of 71 years, 9 months and 11 days.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. J C. Clausen, and four children, Mrs. Glenn Hoopler of Emmetsburg, Miss Alice Clausen of Los Angeles, Calif., Lawrence and Arnold of Hartley, one brother, Nicholas Clausen of Oxnard, Calif, five grandchildren and other relatives and a host of friends, who will remember him as an honest business man and a good friend to all.

Last rites were held Tuesday afternoon, April 30th, 1946 for John C. Clausen at the home at 30 and at Trinity Evangelical and Reformed church at 2 o'clock. Rev B. H. Romanowski, pastor officiated. Music was furnished by a quartette consisting of Mrs. Everett Selken, Miss Emma Fischer, W R. Wagner and Hewitt Grotewohl. Mrs. Gobel Graves accompanied them at the piano. Pall bearers were E. Popp, Pete Leese, Elmer Randolph, E. U. Thomas, Walter Engelbrecht and Henry Peterson. Interment was made in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley.
