Katherine (Scholes) Snook (1832-1907)

Katherine Snook, maiden name Scholes, was born in Mansfield Ohio, Dec. 18, 1832. She came to Iowa with her parents in the year of 1848, and was united in the holy bonds of matrimony with George Snook in 1850. This union was blessed with ten children, four of whom preceded the mother into the spirit world, while six survive her.

In the year of 1881, she came to O’Brien county, Iowa and made her home with her son, Abe, and family until the time of her death. During the last three months she suffered with liver complaint and finally the Lord delivered her from the sufferings of this earthly life.

She died Oct. 16, 1907, at the age of 74 years, 9 months and 29 days, leaving six children to mourn her departure.

The names of the surviving children are as follows: Abe Snook, of Harrison township, Osceola county, Iowa; Mrs. Mathilda Jenkins, of Tulsa, Indian Territory; Mrs. Geo. D. Cain, of Flambeau, Wis, Jean W. Snook, of Jackpine county, Minn, Mrs. Nancy Lattimer, of Ledyard, Kossuth county, Iowa; Mrs. Geo. W. Lagrange, Bigstone county, Minn; and Earl Snook of O’Brien county, Iowa.

The funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. D. Schaible of the Evangelical church, assisted by the Rev. W. D. Sauer. Interment was made in the Hartley cemetery.
