C. Harold Lyman (1918-1967)

C. Harold Lyman, the son of John and Mary Longbottom Lyman, was born Feb. 6, 1918 in O'Brien County, near Hartley, Iowa. He passed away on Aug. 16, 1967, at the age of 49 years, 6 months, and 10 days.

His early years were spent near Melvin. and it was there that he attended school. He had served in the United States Army during World War II, in the infantry. He entered service on April 20, 1942, and received an honorable discharge at Schick Gen. Hospital on June 19, 1945.

He was a member of the Methodist Church of Hartley.

On May 12, 1945 he was married to Pearl Huston at Luverne, Minn. They lived for a short time near Melvin, then at Hartley from 1952 until 1954. They also had resided at Paullina for two years, and Sutherland for two years, before coming back to Hartley in 1958. He had farmed for many years, hut for the past seven years had been engaged in the buying and selling of livestock.

Mr. and Mrs. Lyman were the parents of six children: Nona (Joens), Rita, Ruth, Bruce, Beth, and John, all at home.

Survivors include his wife and children; his father, John of Melvin; one sister, Mrs. Roy Lyman of Denver, Colo.; two brothers, Duane of Fairmont, Minn., and Bernard of Sanborn, Iowa, as well as other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Hartley, Iowa on Saturday, August 19. Reverend Keith Scott officiated. Pallbearers were Sherwood Otto, Sharon Otto, Marvin Tewes, Leslie Rogers, Robert Butler and Arthur Mielke. He is at rest at Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley, Iowa. Military services were conducted by Arthur W. Kirchhoff Post 288. Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
