Ralph Frank "Dick" Ahrens (1912-1991)

Ralph Frank "Dick" Ahrens, the son of H.A. and Dora Jalas Ahrens, was born at Hartley, Iowa, on April 12, 1912. He attended rural schools near his childhood home.

He was united in marriage to Irma Lammers on December 22, 1938, at LeMars, Iowa. They made their home in O'Brien County on farms near Sutherland, Sanborn, Primghar and for the last fifty three years, near Hartley, IA.

He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church at Hartley and enjoyed his work at farming and fishing and hunting. He passed away on September 18, 1991, at Hartley.

Preceding him in death were his parents, three brothers, Frank, Albert and Alvin; two sisters, Luella and Evelyn; and one son-in-law, Carl Bruce.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Irma; one daughter, Sandra Bruce of Herndon, VA; one son and his wife, Rodney and Cheryl of Balch Springs, TX; five grandchildren: Carl, Ariane, Ryan, Wensley and Natalie; three sisters: Mrs. Herman (Amanda) Stoffel of Spirit Lake, Mrs. Clifford (Leona) Riedemann of Paullina and Mrs. Velma Hansen of Waterloo; as well as other relatives and friends.

Services for Ralph "Dick" Ahrens were held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, IA, on Saturday, September 21, 1991, at 10:30 a.m. Rev. John Schauer officiated. The casket bearers were Tim Lammers, Tracy Lammers, Duane Riedemann, Virgil Riedemann, Dennis Lowder and Warren Hartmann. The committal service was held at Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley, Iowa, under the direction of the Baumgarten Funeral Home.
