Elmer John Mohror (1911-2003)

Elmer John Mohror, the son of August and Minnie (Piehl) Mohror, was born October 29, 1911 in rural Arlington, South Dakota. At the age of five the family moved to a farm by Brooke - Peterson, Iowa. Elmer attended school at Brooke and Peterson. He was confirmed at the St. John's Evangelical Church in 1928.

Elmer married Zelma Duke of rural Peterson, Iowa, on June 17 1930. To this union three daughters were born, Shirley Duncan and her husband Robert of Hartley, IA, Barbara Rohrbaugh and her husband Ronald of Peterson, IA, and Beverly Kreibaum and her husband Dale of Sutherland, IA.

Elmer worked at a machine shop in Peterson and later purchased a line of trucks and trucked for farmers in the area. In about 1942 the family moved north of Peterson where Elmer farmed. In 1962 Elmer and his wife moved to Sutherland, IA where Elmer continued to farm and do custom work excavating with his Caterpillar until he retired in 1976.

Elmer enjoyed traveling, fishing, and puttering around his farm. In his earlier years, he even converted old horse drawn machinery over to be used behind tractors, made his own snow plow, loader for the tractor just to name a few of the things that he built. He truly enjoyed working while his health would permit.

Elmer was a member of the Methodist Church in Peterson, Iowa and later transferred his membership to Sutherland, Iowa.

Elmer leaves behind his wife, Zelma, three daughters, Shirley Duncan, Barbara Rohrbaugh and Beverly Kreibaum and their husbands, nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Preceding him in death are his parents, one brother, Le Roy Mohror and one sister, Azelia Rector and one great grand daughter, Mindy Nichols.

Funeral services were held for Elmer John Mohror on Wednesday, October 25,2003 at 10:30 p.m. in the United Methodist Church, Sutherland, with Pastor Dennis Hopes officiating. Hymns "A Closer Walk With Me" and "Just As I Am" were sung by soloist Andrea Orthmann. Gina Duncan was soloist for "Grace Alone." The organist was Elaine Leonard. Casket Bearers were Chris Kreibaum, Ryan Haider, Kevin Duncan, Robert Nichols, Daniel Duncan, Jeff Duncan and Brian Duncan. Honorary Casket Bearers were Cody Rohrbaugh, Matt Rohwer, Jessica Duncan, Brittany Duncan, Caitlin Rohrbaugh, Sarah Rohwer, Nichole Duncan, Jennifer Duncan and Shana Duncan. Interment was in the Waterman Cemetery, Sutherland, IA under the direction of Warner Funeral Home, Sutherland, JA.
