Luverna Meehlhause -- Services in memory of Luverna Meehlhause were conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2003, at Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, Iowa. Rev. Howard Campbell officiated. Casket bearers were Terry Hartmann, Rick Hartmann, Ray Ahlers, Audley DeGraaf, Alvin Petersen and Orville Taylor. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home of Hartley was in charge of the arrangements.

Luverna Meehlhause, the daughter of Paul and Agnes Dittmer Riessen, was born July 18, 1905, near Plessis, Iowa, northwest of Hartley, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent near Hartley where she received her education in country schools at Lincoln Township School #2, just a half-mile north of her parents' farm.

Luverna married Ed Meehlhause in 1927 in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they farmed near Hartley for many years.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Hartley, and in 1988 she moved into the Mann Memorial Wing in Hartley.

Mrs. Meehlhause passed away at the Community Memorial Health Center in Hartley on Saturday, February 15, 2003, at the age of 97.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ed, on August 9, 1968; one brother, Raymond Riessen; and one brother-in-law, Amos Hartmann.

She is survived by one sister, Lorene Hartmann of Hartley; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
