Carl Ernest Theodore Lange was born in Germany, June 20, 1856, and died at Paullina, Iowa, March 10, 1940, at the ago of 83 years, 8 months and 20 days. The place of his birth, .was called Fleverstorf, in the province of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.

He was twice married. The first time on October 18, 1881, in Germany, to Miss Frieda Kirch, the mother of his four children. Four other children died in their infancy.

After coming to America, in 1881, he lived two years in Buffalo, N Y., 19 years in Chicago, 10 years at Ayrshire, Iowa, and then moved to Paullina in 1913. Mrs. Frieda Kirch Lange died at Sioux City, April 5, 1910.

For the second time he married Mrs. Johanna Beuke, a widow, in Chicago, Feb. 21, 1923. This marriage was dissolved by the death of Mrs. Lange on Jan. 24, 1936.

The surviving children are Albert Lange of Michigan, Mrs. Julia Baechthold of Chicago, Charles Lange of Davenport and Mrs. Frieda Kay of Paullina. He had 14 grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Interment took place at Prairie View cemetery, Wednesday afternoon from Zion Lutheran church, the Rev. J. Hartmeister officiating.
