OBITUARY Leona E. (Engel) Davis, the daughter of Gustav and Clara (Vierck) Engel, was born at Calumet, IA. On July 7, 1911 She lived her youth in the Calumet and Sutherland areas, receiving her education in Calumet
Leona was united in marriage to Ray A Davis, on December 27, 1930, at Sioux City, Iowa. During their married lifetime. Ray and Leona lived in the Sutherland area where they raised chickens, milked cows, and always had a large garden. They moved to Sanborn in 1975. After moving to Sanborn. Leona washed dishes at Jay's Restaurant for many years
She entered the Prairie View Nursing Home at Sanborn on September 28. 1998 and she died there on November 30 2001
Leona is survived by her children. Leland A. Davis of Malabar, FL. Allyn Ray Davis of Aurora, CO. and Kathleen K Virgil of Oskaloosa, IA; Six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, other relatives and many friends
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ray, her daughter-in-law Casin Davis, three sisters Alma Hansel, Hilda Muckler and Clara Engel (who died in infancy) and one brother Hans Engel.
Leona enjoyed collecting 800 sets of salt and pepper shakers given to her by her many friends and family.
Funeral services for Leona E. Davis were held at 10 30 a.m Monday, December 3, 2001 at the Sanborn Funeral Home in Sanborn, Iowa with Rev Dale Fopma officiating "Brighten the Corner Where You Are" and "Trust and Obey" were sung by Richard Porter and Jeannette Kinney Starla Reistma was the organist The casket bearers were Jon Sybesma, Doug Bradford, Don Faas Jr., Jeff Davis, Garnck Bradford, and Harlan Engel. Interment was at Waterman Township Cemetery with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating Funeral was under the direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home.
