Delbert Hodgdon Funeral Services Held at Presbyterian Church

Funeral services were held at the First Presbyterian church here Monday, Aug 31 at 2 o'clock for Delbert Anson Hodgdon who died suddenly Saturday morning, Aug 29. Burial took place at Prairie View cemetery. The Rev. Mr. L.R. Middents officiated at the services at the church. Mrs. Harold DeJong sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Evening Prayer" with Mrs. Marvin Smith accompanying at the organ. Graveside services were conducted by the Masonic lodge with J.F. Hladky in charge.

Delbert Hodgdon was a son of Charles and Ada Hodgdon, born March 11, 1895, on a farm south of Paullina. He died at the age of 58 years, 5 months and 11 days.

After completing rural school and Paullina High School, he attended Capital City commercial college, Des Moines. He served his country in the medical corps for seventeen months during World War I. After his return from the service he accepted a position as teller in the First National bank, Paullina, where he worked for 17 years. For three years he owned a general stor in Paullina. He worked as cashier of the State Bank of Ute and later was employed in CIvil Service for one year in SIoux City, during World War II. Upon moving to California, he was assistant cashier in a Bank of America, Los Angeles, Calif. At the time of his death he had been employed as a chashier at Lange's Cafe.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian church, the Masonic Lodge, Order of the Eastern Star and American Legion.

On Nov 11, 1922, he was married to Blanche Thompson. To them one daughter, Virginia, was born.

He is survived by his widow and daughter and two grandsons, Jerry and Mark White; four borthers, Harry of Sioux Falls, Mules of California, John of Washta and Burdette of Paullina, and one sister, Fyrne Puhrmann of Charles City and many nieces and nephews. His parents, two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Pallbearers were veterans of World War I, R.F. Fife, A.W. Anderson, Thomas Harries and John Beerman (Ewoldt also).

Relatives from a distance, who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Harry Hodgdon, Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Kich and DeLoris, Mrs. Bert Castle, Jr., of Sioux Falls, Mr and Mrs. John Hodgdon, Mrs. Kenneth Wyck, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Hodgdon of Wasta, Mr. and Mrs. Joe __ of Cherokee, Mrs. Fyrne Puhrmann and Mrs. Merlyn K___ of Charles City, Mr. John ___ land and Patty, Charles Rose___ of Clear Lake, Mrs. Ethel ___ of Waterloo and Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Welty of Pocahontas.
