Alice Kae DeBoom

Alice Kae DeBoom, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William DeBoom, passed away Saturday afternoon, January 14, at their farm home near Hartley after a brief illness. On Monday, January 9, the little girl had complained of a cold. As her sister had been ill with measles, it was supposed she might be contracting the same disease so she was kept at home until on Friday evening, she again became ill. Even then her condition did not seem serious, but at noon Saturday she complained of difficulty in breathing. Doctors were again summoned and gave her oxygen but to no avail and she passed away about 2:30 in the afternoon.

Alice Kae was born December 20, 1941 on a farm near Hull, Iowa, and was eight years old at the time of her death. She was baptized in infancy in the American Reformed Church at Hull.

In March, 1943, she moved with her parents to the farm near Hartley which has been her home since. She had attended the rural school near there and this year she was a pupil in the second grade in the Hartley school.

She is survived by her parents, two sisters, Darlene and Deloris, a baby brother, William Roger; her grandmothers for whom she was named, Mrs. Alice DeBoom and Mrs. Kate Meylink, the latter two of Sanborn; also other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at one o'clock at the family home and at 1:30 in the First Reformed church by Rev. J.H. Straks. Miss Ruth Van Zyl sang "Safe in the Arms of Jesus" and the little girls of Alice Kae's Sunday School class sang, "I am so Glad that Jesus Loves Me." Mrs. Gerrit Velhuizen accompanying for both numbers.

Casket bearers were cousins: Maurina, Marline, Twylla, Shirley, Phyllis and Joyce DeBoom. Burial was in Roseland Cemetery.
