Neva Martha Decker

Funeral services in memory of Neva Martha Decker were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 14, 2000, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, Iowa. Pastor David Ericksen officiated. Casket bearers were Dan McCarty, Keith Jacobs, Donald Bobzien, David Bobzien, Gordon Williamson and LeDen Pingel. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home of Hartley was in charge of the arrangements.

Neva Martha Decker, the daughter of John and Emma Kruse Bobzien, was born October 16, 1901, in O'Brten County, Iowa, Her childhood years were spent in the Hartley area, where she received her early education, attending rural schools. She later attended and graduated from Hartley High School. During high school, she continued her education through a Normal Training course, and later taught for five years in country schools. Neva was baptized, confirmed and was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hartley, where she was active in the Ladies Aid and the Sunshine Club for several years.

Neva married Eli Martin Decker on February 27, 1924 in Hartley. Throughout their marriage they made their home in the Hartley area. She enjoyed oil painting and painted several pictures showing her many talents.

Mrs. Decker passed away at her home northwest of Hartley on June 8, 2000, at the age of 98. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on March 14, 1969; an infant son; her brothers: Glen Bobzien and Clarence Bobzien; and a sister, Esther Wagner.

Those left to cherish her memory are her niece, who she raised since childhood, Joann and her husband, Henry Rozema of Marshfield, Wisconsin; Joann's children: Yvonne and her husband, Mark Ledeboer of Willmar, Minnesota, Jay and his wife, Marcy Rozema of Marshfield, Wisconsin, Neda Rozema of Marshfield, Wisconsin, and Rene Rozema of Hartley, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Mabyl Bobzien of Hartley; five great­grandchildren; many other nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
