Funeral services for Mrs. I. J. Johnston, who passed away Tuesday, No­vember 25, were held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 at her home and at 2:00 o'clock in the Methodist church with the pastor, the Rev. Wm. Zabilka, D. D. in charge and the Rev. E. Stanworth of Aurelia giving the sermon. At the request of the family Rev. Stanworth selected the same text taken from John 14:2 for the sermon as he had used at the service for her late husband three years ago. Mrs. Wm. Zabilka sang a solo, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," with Miss Gladys Barber accompanying. Acting as pallbearers were Ben Pat-ton, Verne Cook, F. C. Wagner, G. C. Gallup, Harry Uittenbogaard and D. B. Pippinger. Burial was in Roscland Cemetary.

Jessie Belle McAfee, daughter of Conrad and Louisa McAfee, was born June 27, 1881 near Audubon in Audu­bon County, Iowa and departed this life on Tuesday, November 25, 1941 at Sanborn, Iowa, being 6O years of age.

Audubon was the family home un­til the deceased was 6 years old when they moved to Atlantic, Iowa. There she grew to womanhood and on Feb­ruary 22, 1905 was united in marriage to Irving J. Johnston of Sanborn. They came to Sanborn to make their home and she has resided here continuously ever since with the exception of two years when they were at Calmar. Since 1906 she has lived in the same house in Sahborn which is still the family home.

To this union was born three chil­dren; Jessie, Mrs. Willard Casey, of Spencer; Delbert, of Camp Claiborne, La.; and Elmer, of Boone, who sur­vive to mourn the loss of a devoted mother.

She is also survived by two stepchildren, Mrs. I. K. Ewalt, of Des Moines and Leslie Johnston, Los An­geles, Calif.; her mother, Mrs. C. T. McAfee, of Centerville, S. Dak.; two sisters, Mrs. Chas. Snyder, Center­ville and Mrs. Verne Perkins, Parker, S. Dak.; three brothers, William Mc Afee and Lloyd McAfee, of Anita, Iowa and Cecil McAfee, Sumner, Ia.; three granddaughters, DeElda, Anita and Maida Lou Casey, besides other relatives and many friends.

For several years Mrs. Johnston de­voted her time to the loving care of her invalid husband, who passed a-way three years ago November 29, 1938. Although a frail woman Mrs. Johnston had seemingly been in her usual health until about three weeks ago she became ill of a heart ailment and could not rally, passing away at nine o'clock last Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Johnston became a member of the Methodist church soon after com­ing to Sanborn and was a loyal and faithful worker in the church and the Methodist Ladies Aid of which she was also a member. She was affilia­ted with the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekah and Royal Neighbor Lodges the BeJolly and Milwaukee Women's Clubs, in all of which she had taken an active part.

All of her children and all of her brothers and sisters and her mother, were here to attend the services; the children, Mr. and Mrs. Willard Casey and daughter, D'Elda, of Spencer, Delbert Johnston, Camp Claiborne, La., and Elmer Johnston, of Boone; her mother, Mrs. C. T. McAfee, Cen­terville, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Verne Perkins, Parker, S. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Snyder and children, Charles and Louise, of Centerville, S. D, Lloyd and William McAfee, of Anita, and Mr. and Mrs. Cecil McAfee, Marcella and Marjorie, Sumner, Ia.; also Mr. and Mrs. I. K. Ewalt, Des Moines.

Other relatives and friends from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Joe Johnston, Ross and Eunice and Mrs. Joe Johnston Jr., of Meindan; Mi, and Mrs. Nels Carlson, Miss Frone Gay-lord, Ed Phillips and son, George, Mr. and Mrs. Walker, and George Drinkers, all of Cherokee; Fred and Arthur Textor, Coon Rapids; Dr. and Mrs. Charles Ely, Cleghorn; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Drefke and daughter, Lorene, Aurelia; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Powers, Mrs. Henry Geister and Marie, Mi-, and Mrs. Wm. Casey, Mrs. Ray Ahrend and Mrs. W. L. Anderson, of Primghar; Mr. and Mrs. Dave Snyder of Atlantic.
