Last Rites Held for Mrs. Theresa Hilker; Died Friday Morning

Funeral services for Mrs. Theresa Hilker, 62, were held Monday afternoon at the Cowan and Gaudian funeral home, with burial in Prairie View cemetery. The Rev. L. R. Middents officiated, and pallbearers were Gary Willey, Edwin Ewoldt, Dale Spaan, Dr. C. E. Summy, Charles Young and John Lange. Weber Clayton was in charge of flowers.

Mrs. Hilker, a resident of Paullina since 1916, died at the Oakdale sanatorium Friday morning of a heart attack. Although she had been a patient there sev­eral years, she had been feeling quite well She was an expert bridge player, and interested in all sports, with an encyclopedic knowledge of baseball players and their records. She also en­joyed golfing and fishing, and was one of Paullina's first women golfers.

She was born Sept. 30, 1893, at LeMars, the daughter of Nicholas and Mary Ries. Her marriage to Roy C. Hilker, Paullina businessman, took place Oct. 7, 1914, and the couple moved to Paullina from LeMars in 1916.

Survivors, in addition to Mr. Hilker, include their son, Dr. Robert R. Hilker of Chicago, Ill., and two sisters, Mrs. Maude Roberts and Mrs. Kate Barton, both of LeMars, as well as many other relatives.

Many friends and relatives were present for the last rites, including Dr and Mrs. Hilker from Chicago, Ill., her two sisters from LeMars, Mr and Mrs. Albert Dumke of Clear Lake, S Dak., Mr and Mrs. H E. Hilker from Sioux Falls, S. Dak., and others from Ireton, LeMars, Sioux City, Cherokee, Sutherland and Paullina. Paullina business firms were closed during the services A memorial fund was present­ed to Mr. Hilker from her many friends at Oakdale, and this fund was presented to the hospital for its use. A second memorial was presented to the family at Paullina, and this money will be given to the Tuberculosis and Heart association.
