Mrs. George Aurand

Swiftly and without warning death came to the home of one of the pioneer mothers of this community, and called her away on Tuseday morning, November 19. Early that morning Mr. George Aurand arose and went into the kitchen to make a fire, leaving his wife in the bedroom. When he returned there a few minutes later he found her lying on the floor unconscious. When a physician arrived she had passed on. Death had been instant and was due to a heark attack.

Mrs. Anna Barbara Aurand, nee Geiser, was born on March 17, 1869 at Hockenhelm, in Baden in Germany, where she was baptized in infancy. After her father's accidental death in Germany she came with her mother, her sisters and her brothers to the United States in the year of 1886. They made their home west of Freeport, Illinois. Here she attended the rural school and was confirmed into the Faith of the Evangelical church to which faith she remained true all the days of her life.

Having grown to womanhood she was united in marriage to Mr. George Aurand, also of Stephenson County, Illinois, on October 19, 1879. For more than 60 years she was a loyal and devoted wife and mother. Seven children were born to this union. Two daughters died in infancy in Illinois.

In 1912 the family left their home in Illinois and came to seek a new home in Iowa, moving immediately to O'Brien county. In 1929 they retired and moved to Hartley where they have since made their home.

Mrs. Aurand was an Industrious Christian. In spite of many privations and hardships she was always happy and cheerful She enjoyed visiting with her friends and relatives who will miss her cheery voice and spritly step. She was a member of the Trinity church and its Ladies Aid Society for many years.

Mrs. Aurand is survived by her aged husband, Mr George Aurand, five sons, Charles and William of Hartley, Albert of Linn Grove, Frank of Sanborn and Rolley of Spencer; five daughter-in-laws, ten grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. Maggie Haeussler of Freeport, Illinois, and many other relatives and friends.

Three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. She attained the age of 76 years, 8 months and 2 days.

John Fischer, her former pastor, and Rev. F. W. Budy, officiating. The mixed quartette of the Trinity church furnished the music. Interment was made in Pleasant View Cemetery.
