JOOST (JOE) HOEKSEL

Last rites were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church in Hartley for Joe Hoeksel, 66, who passed away suddenly Tuesday, Aug. 22nd, at the Extruded Metals Defense Corp. Plant at Grand Rapids, Mich, where he was employed as guard.

The Hoeksel family left Hartley about 20 years ago and have lived in Grand Rapids ever since. He was a member of the Modern Woodman of America and also janitor in the Methodist church at Hartley for twelve years.

Rev. George Scheider, pastor of the Hartley Methodist church, conducted the services. Mrs. Paul Woodke sang "Have Thine Own Way, Lord" and "Asleep in Jesus", accompanied by Mrs. Harrison Pike at the organ. Pall bearers were Frank Hunt, John and Henry Hilbert, John Kosta, Wm. Kriens and Duane Linder, all members of the Hartley M. W. A.

Those who are left to mourn besides his widow, Emma, are three daughters, Louise, Mrs. Bernard Price of Grand Rapids, Mich., Mary, Mrs. Donald Booth of Tacoma, Wash., Tena, Mrs. Warren Johnson of LaCrosse, Wise, and one son, Warrant Officer Bill Hoeksel, who is somewhere in the British West Indies and could not be located.

Two sons preceded their father in death many years ago.

The deceased was a native of the Netherlands. He was known as an upright man, a kind husband and father and a good friend to anyone in need.

Interment was made in Pleasant View cemetery beside his two sons.

Relatives and friends from away attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Roos and family of Worthington, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Roos of Orange City, Mr and Mrs. Niel Roos and fam­ily of Georgeville, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Arthur DeGroot and family of New London, Minn., Mrs. John Zeylemaker of Sheldon and Mr. and Mrs. John DeGroot and family from North Carolina.
