Duane Marvin Gonnerman

Service in memory of Duane Marvin Gonnerman were conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2001, at the Warner Chapel in Spencer, Iowa. Rev. Roger Maize officiated. Casket bearers were Chad Gonnerman, Ronald Gonnerman, Donnie Gonnerman, David Gonnerman, Craig Gonnerman, Todd Gonnerman and Terry Gonnerman. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner Funeral Home of Spencer was in charge of the arrangements.

Duane "Bud" Marvin Gonnerman, the son of Freeman and Freda Lorensen Gonnerman, was born March 12, 1929 in Hartley, Iowa. He received his education in country schools near Hartley and then attended Moneta High School. In 1948, Duane graduated from Hartley High School.

On December 14, 1950, Duane entered the military in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and served with the U.S. Army until his honorable discharge on December 13, 1952, at Camp Carson, Colorado.

Duane married Violet Kracht on August 10, 1952, at the Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the Hartley, Royal, Peterson and Rossie areas for many years. Bud worked as a salesman for various companies including Asher Motor Company of Spencer and also for the Ford Motor Company.

In 1974, Duane began to farm and while farming, he was a member of the United Methodist Church of Royal, Iowa, and was active with the Clay County Fair Cattlemen and the American Quarter Horse Association. He was a member of the P.O.A.

On Saturday evening, October 27, 2001, Duane passed away at his home near Sioux Rapids, Iowa, at the age Of 72. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, June Mohr.

Duane is survived by his wife, Violet, of rural Sioux Rapids; three sons and their wives: Rodney and Sandra Gonnerman of Lincoln, Nebraska, Dennis and Terri Gonnerman of Johnston, Iowa, Neil and Diane Gonnerman of Sioux City, Iowa; one daughter, Donna Gonnerman of Creston, Iowa; a foster daughter, Kellie Martin of Mena, Arkansas; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as other relatives and many friends.
