Funeral services in memory of Freda M. Gonnerman were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 1997, at thi Hartley United Methodist Church. Rev. John Rosenberger officiated. Casket bearers were Rodney Gonnerman, Dennis Gonnerman, Neil Gonnerman, Greg Mohr, LeRoy Gonnermah, Marvin Gonnerman, Dick Maranell and Dr. Jerry Mohr. Honorary bearers were Bob Butler, Arlyn McClure, George Koens, Darold Rost and Les Kleinke. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery in Hartley. Warner-Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
Freda M. Gonnerman, the daughter of Charles and Dora Eder Lorensen, was bom September 20,1904, in Melvin, Iowa. Her childhood years were spent in that community, where she received her early education. She continued her schooling at Morningside College in Sioux City, following which she taught in a country school.
Freda married Freeman Gonnerman on May 20, 1925, at the Methodist Church in Spencer. Throughout their marriage they made their home in the Hartley community, where for many years she worked as an Avon lady. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church in Hartley.
Mrs. Gonnerman passed away May 10, 1997, at the Baum-Harmon Memorial Hospital in Primghar, at the age of 92. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband on May 10, 1974; one daughter, June Mohr; two brothers, Paul and Carl; one sister, Dorothy.
Freda is survived by one son and his wife, Duane and Violet of Sioux Rapids; her grandchildren: Greg Mohr and his wife Joan of Spirit Lake, Dr. Jerry Mohr and his wife Pamela of Scottsdalc, Arizona, Rodney Gonnerman and his wife Sandra of Lincoln, Nebraska, Donna Gonnerman of Creston, Dennis Gonnerman and his wife Terri of Polk City, and Neil Gonnerman of Sioux City; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Beulah Lilly of Harrison, Arkansas, and Lois Marnell of Milford; two brothers: Wayne Lorensen of Abilene, Texas and Howard Lorensen of Gig Harbor, Washington; two sisters-in-law: Ruth Lorensen of Pine River, Minnesota and Lillian Lorensen of Ocheyedan; as well as other relatives and many friends.
