JAMES COCKLE, PIONEER RESIDENT DIES SUDDENLY
James Cockle, pioneer resident of this community died very suddenly Monday night, August l9th, at 11:30 o'clock. Death apparently being due from heart, failure. The funeral service will he held Thursday afternoon, at 1:30 from tbe home and at 2:00 o'clock from the First Presbyterian church, with Dr. H.P. Morgan, officiating. Interment will be made in the Prairie View cemetery,
James Cockle was horn at Aldreth Haddenbain in Cambridge county, England, February 6th, 1819, and had reached the age of 8O years, 6 months and 13 days. He was the son of Daniel and Lucy Cockle, who preceded him in death many years ago.
Deceased came to this country In the year of 1871 and settled first at Carroll, Ia. Ten years later he came to Cherokee county, Northwest Iowa, and purchased a farm located about eight miles south of Paullina. Here he lived for many years aud was actively engaged in farming until about eighteen years ago. He retired and moved to the town of Paullina. Deceased was never married and through all those years he lived alone and was always happy. Surviving Mr Cockle is a brother Daniel of Paullina. and two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Baily of British Columbia, and Mrs. Susan Porter of England.
His sudden death was a shock to his relatives and friends here as he had enjoyed fairly good health this summer. He was one of Iowa's pioneers and was successful in his chosen vocation, that of farming.
Mr Cockle will be missed on the streets of Paullina where be alwnys had a warm greeting for his friends and acquaintances. The "Times" extends its sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
