Frank J. Pauling, son of August and Mathilda Boldenow Pauling, was born September 7, 1897, in Caledonia Township, O'Brien County, Iowa. He attended the St. John's Lutheran School in Germantown. On Emma August 29, 1920, he was united in marriage to Emma Hibbing. After their marriage the couple settled on a farm west of Paullina where they farmed for many years before retiring in 1963 and moving to Paullina. Emma preceded him in death in April of 1968. Frank continued to make his home in Paullina until entering Wide View Rest Home where he resided until his death on Friday, April 1, 1988, reaching the age of 90 years, 6 months and 24 days.
Frank was baptized on September 26, 1897, and later confirmed on April 9, 1911, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Germantown. He was currently a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Paullina.
Frank leaves to cherish his memory, one son, Francis and wife, Bonnie of Paullina and one daughter, Dolores and husband, Earl Ewoldt of Willmar, Minn.; his grandchildren, Teresa, Merideth, Angel and Sheri; Bruce Paulina and wife, Marcia and their children: Kari,Joel, and Chad; Susan and her husband Greg Lange and their son, Chris; Kirk Ewoldt and wife Judy and their children: Amy, Kole and Matthew; and Paul Ewoldt; also one brother, Pastor Clarence Pauling and wife, Ruth of Cambridge, Minn.; also a host of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; one brother, Earl; on sister, Adella Hattermann and twin great granddaughters.
