Earl Pauling, son of August Pauling and Mathilda nee Boldenow, was born on February 15, 1899 on a farm near Germantown. He was baptized, educated, and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. John Lutheran Church of Germantown. He farmed in this area for a number of years. On January 26, 1920 he was united in marriage to Clara Lange. Clara and Earl lived in this community most of their married lives. In 1962 Earl's life was saddened by the death of his wife Clara.

He retired from his job with the O'Brien county work shop in 1956, after about 25 years of faithful service. Earl was very active in affairs of his church. His cheerfulness and helpfulness are well remembered by a great many friends and relatives. About three weeks ago he suffered a cerebral hemmorrage and entered the Orange City Hospital. On Wednesday, July 31, he died at the age of 69 years.

He leaves to mourn his death, his brothers, Frank of Paullina, and the Rev. Clarence Pauling of Cambridge, Minn., and one sister, Adella (Mrs. Emil Hattermann) of Germantown.

Burial was in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery at Germantown with Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
