MRS. FRED WINKELHAUS

This community was grieved Monday when the death of Mrs. Fred Winkelhaus was learned. Mrs. Winkelhaus has been ill for some time, but her condition was not deemed as serious as it proved to be.

Veda Ionia Walter, eldest daughter of the late George and Alice Elsbury Walter, was born near Hartley, Iowa April 1, 1892. She passed away at the family home in Hartley Township on Monday morning, Dec. 11, having reached the age of 47 years, 8 months and 11 days.

She was united in marriage to Fred Winkelhaus on Dec. 22. 1920 at Spencer, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Ardis Blanche and Lois Elvira, who with the father are left to mourn the passing of a devoted mother and loving companion. Mrs. Winkelhaus is also survived by two brothers, Ortis and Frank, and two sisters, Mrs. Beth Carr and Miss Oleatha Walter of Hartley.

Mrs. Winkelhaus spent her entire life in and around Hartley. She attended the rural school of her home township and later graduated with the Class of 1913 of the Hartley High School. She taught for some years in the rural schools of O'Brien county. She united with the Methodist Church in Hartley in 1910 under the pastorate of the Rev. George Gilbert now of Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was a faithful attendant until overtaken by illness which deprived her of these privileges.

She has endeared herself to a large circle of friends who will mourn her early going. She was devoted to her family and her entire life was centered in her home. She was loved for her noble character and her kindness of heart.

Rev. George Gilbert, pastor of the Riverside Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa, preached the sermon. The choir, composed of John Linder, Mrs. Robert Schaffer. Mrs. Lyle Shinkle and W R. Wagner, accompanied by Mrs. Harrison Pike, sang her favorite hymns. The sympathy of the entire community is extended to the bereaved relatives.
