Services held for Gary L. Behrens
Funeral services for Gary L. Behrens were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, 1996 at Grace Lutheran Church, Primghar. Rev. James Mueller officiated. Hymns "Just As I Am" and "What a Friend Wc Have in Jesus" were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Donna Struve. Casket bearers were James Behrens, Tony Behrens, Dan Benson, David Benson, Tim Ebel and Tom Ebel. Flag presentation was by Chateau-Thierry American Legion Post 36, Primghar. Final resting place was at at Prairie View Cemetery, Paullina, with Gaudian-Eldridge Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Gary Lee Behrens, the son of Hans and Amanda Plath Behrens, was born Feb. 1, 1939 near Paullina. He received his education in O'Brien County schools and later graduated from Primghar High School in 1957. From 1961 until 1963 he served in the United States Army. Gary returned to Primghar where he was a self-employed restaurant and bar owner for several years. He later moved to Arizona, and the past 10 years had made his home in Sioux City. He had been employed at the Sioux City Boat Club, and for the past four and a half years, worked at the Winn-A-Vegas Casino near Sloan.
He passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1996, reaching the age of 57 years, eight months and eight days.
He was confirmed on April 11, 1954 and was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Primghar. He was also a member of the Chateau-Thierry Post #36 of the American Legion in Primghar.
Gary leaves to cherish his memory three sisters, Kathryn and her husband Burdette Ebel of Primghar, Helen and her husband H.J. Benson of Marshall, Mn., and Luella Behrens of Primghar; a brother, Richard Behrens of Primghar; 11 nephews and nieces; 12 grandnieces and grandnephews; also a host of other relatives and friends.
