MISS MATILDA JENNINGS PASSES AWAY IN PORTLAND

The funeral service for Miss Matilda Jennings, who passed away August 23 at Portland Oregon, was held here Sunday afternoon at 5:00 o'clock at the Dr. L. H. Bell home with the Rev. W.P. Clyde, Jr. officiating. Interment was made at the Prairie View Cemetery.

Matilda Jennings was born January 25th, 1870, at Iowa Falls. Iowa, and died August 23, in Portland, where she was spending the summer with her niece Mrs. William Crapo. Her death was very sudden following an operation. She moved with her parents to Lewiston, Idaho, In 1885 and has spent most of her life in the west.

She had been identified with educational work until the time of her death, having taught in the schools of Mason City, Iowa. Lewlston, Idaho, and. Harlowton, Montana, and for ten years preceding her death had served as County Superintendent of Wheatland county, Montana. She was a member of the Presbyterian church and took an active part In all church work.

She is survived by her sisters Mrs. Charlotte Hanson, and Mrs. Grace Cannon of Paullina, Mrs. Sarah Paul of Nashville, Hl„ Mrs. Mary Dent of Lewlston, Idaho. Her intense personality left an impression on everyone who knew her.

A quartette composed of Mrs. W. J E. Thatcher, LaVerne Seagren, Matt Shankland. Jr., and Sherwood Thatcher, sang at the fuueral service. They were accompanied at the piano by Miss Idella Orthmann. The pall­bearers were Messrs. George CISyton, George Harris, Dr L. H. Bell, Welton Peek, J R. Madison and W.J.E. Thatcher The remains arrived at Alton Sunday morning from Portland. The "Times" extends its sympathy to the bereaved family and friends.
