CHARLEY ACKERMAN

Charley Ackerman, son of Pete and Margaret Ackerman, was born in Marnet Germany on August 26, 1878. At the age of 16 years he came to the United States and settled in Gladbrook, Ia., where he lived for one year and then moved to Calumet, Ia.

He was united in marriage to Marie Scherner on February 25, 1903 at Primghar, Iowa. After their marriage they farmed n£ar Primghar for seven years. In 1910 they moved to a farm north east of Hartley. In 1929 they moved into the town of Hartley where he lived until 1961. He then moved to Spencer, Ia., and made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Miller.

He entered the Delaney Nursing Home in March of 1972 and passed away at the Spencer Municipal Hospital on May 21, 1972 at the. age of 93 years, eight months and 25 days

He is survived by two daughters, Louise (Mrs. Henry Miller) of Spencer and Edna (Mrs. Carl Hasenbank) of Akron, Ia.; six grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren; two sons-in-law

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Marie, in 1959.

He was baptized and confirmed in Germany in the Lutheran faith. Funeral services were conducted at the Sanborn Funeral Home of Sanborn, Iowa, on Wednesday, May 24, 1972 with Rev. Albert Moss of the Hope Reformed Church in Spencer officiating. Pallbearers were Wilbur Hasenbank, Marvin Hasenbank, Robert Gradert, Vernon Hasenbank, Eldon Gable and Edward Miller.

Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery at Hartley, Ia.
