BEN HOFMAN

Funeral services were held Thursday, 2 p.m. at the Christian Reformed Church for Ben Hofman, with Rev Peter Vander Weide officiating. Charles Andringa, Elmer Klaver, Bruce Nikkle and Henry Koldenhovcn sang "He the Pearly Gates Will Open." Miss Kathy Butcyn presided at the organ and accompanied the singer, Mrs. Charles Boone: Mrs Marvin Achterhof cared for the flowers. Casket bearers were Dennis Bosma. Ronald Damstra, Donald Damstra, Julius Damstra, Ben Damstra and Ben Solsma (all grandsons). Burial in Rosciand Cemetery under the direction of the Sanborn Funeral Home.

Ben Hofman was born August 1, 1887 in the Netherlands. He came to the United States when he was 16. On March 12. 1909 he married Cornelia Bonnes at Orange City. They farmed near Strubble for two years before moving to Sanborn where they farmed until 1951 when they retired and moved to a home on West Third Street in Sanborn.

He leaves to mourn his widow Mrs. Cornelia Hofman and six daughters and two sons, Agnes, Mrs. Bert Solsma, Angelena, Mrs. Wm. Damstra, both of Sheldon, Cornelia, Mrs Dick Solsma, Gertrude, Mrs. John Hengeveld, Bertha, Mrs. Gilbert Meernik, Dorothy, Mrs. Marvin Bosma, John Hofman and Dick Hofman, all of Sanborn, 23 grandchild­ren, 10 great grandchildren also two brothers, John Hofman of Sanborn and Charles Hofman of Clear Lake, S. D.. plus many relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by two grand­children one great grandchild two brothers and two sisters.

Mr. Hofman helped start the Christian Reformed Church at Sanborn. He was a devout member and loved his church very much. He served as a deacon and was a willing helper in every need there. A memorial fund for Mr. Hofman has been started for the Library of the local Christian School, a school for which he served as a board member and faithfully supported and loved.
