MARGARET BROOKS. April 26th, 1900, aged 40 years, 3 months and 24 days, wife of Henry F.L. Brooks of Spencer Iowa.

The deceased was better known in this county than elsewhere, as she came here at the age of ten years and spent most of her life among our people. She was a daughter of Alexander Robertson, a respected pioneer of Silver Lake township. In 1893 she became the wife of H.F.L. Brooks, who survives. A lovely little daughter of 3 1/2 years and a little baby girl remain to comfort him.

There was much sadness about the county when this death was announced. During her girlhood and womanhood she made herself very dear to many and was respected and admired by all. The battle of life was harder to her than to most girls because of lameness more or less serious during a considerable period, but she was yet always noted for her sweet spirit and helfulness. Her bright face and sunny temper made Maggie Robertson welcome everywhere, and her brave heart overwhelmed difficulty that would have overcome others more able to endure. The death of Mrs. Brooks is a sad blow to a family deeply attached to each other and particularly devoted to the sainted daughter and sister.

Funeral services were held here last Saturday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T. F. Bowen, rector of St. Stephen's church, Spencer, of which the deceased was a beloved member. Burial was in Lakeview Cemetery. [sic]
