JESSIE C. TJOSSEM

In memory of Jessie C. Tjossem services were held at the Friends Meeting House at Mapleside on Tuesday, October 15, 1974 at 10:30 a.m. Casket bearers were George Tjossem, Warren Wilson, Owen Crosbie, Glenn Tjossem, Roger Crosbie and Carroll Wall. The alternates were Tracy Tjossem, Ted Crosbie and Doyle Wilson. The interment was at the Mapleside Cemetery with the Baumgarten Funeral Home in charge.

Jessie C. Tjossem was born March 23, 1902 in Ida County, Iowa, and passed away October 13, 1974 at Hartley Memorial Hospital.

She was the third child of Gavin and Alice Crosbie, and grew to adulthood at their Uplands Farm near Ida Grove where the family took part in the Pleasant Valley Sunday School as the active center of life in that community. She kept associations with some of that group all of her life. She was a graduate of Ida Grove High School and attended Iowa State Teachers College at Cedar Falls in preparation for eight years of devoted teaching in rural schools near their home.

On February 28, 1928, Jessie was married to W. Alvern Tjossem in the parental home near Ida Grove. She was a faithful partner with her husband as they have since farmed in O'Brien County, and for some years also helped operate the Wall-Tjossem Motor Company in Gaza.

Family ties were unusually strong ones, and she will be especially missed by her husband; by two sons, Russell and Galen and their wives, Ruthann and Mary Ellen; and by her six grandchildren who were very dear to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents and by a sister, Florence. A brother, Edward, lives near Primghar, and her younger brother, Sydney, is from Ames, Iowa.
Jessie was a lifelong member of the Religious Society of Friends, in which she took an active part, serving willingly in many capacities. She participated in the varied activities of Mapleside Sewing Bee, enjoyed the monthly Community parties and banquets over the years, treasured the fellowship of the Annual Cornbread Supper, and regularly attended the Thompson-Tjossem Family Club. She was also known as a good neighbor to those residing near their farm, and valued the association of the Neighborhood Birthday Club.
It has been said that one who has accomplished all his or her goals in life probably did not aspire to very many. Jessie was ever thinking of the future and of more things that she wanted to do which was evidence of her love of life and of her family and friends. The Spiritual depth of her Faith has been a meaningful example to the many, many persons who have known her, and in whose memories she will live on.
