FORT DODGE, KS—John Fredrick Elder, 69, formerly of Sheldon, died Sunday, July 10, 2016, in Fort Dodge, KS.

There will be a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at the Kansas Soldiers’ Home Chapel in Fort Dodge, KS. Arrangements are under the direction of Swaim Funeral Home in Dodge City, KS.

John Fredrick Elder, son of John F. Elder and Cecilia (Contes) Junk, was born Aug. 24, 1946, in Olympia, WA. He grew up in the state of Washington. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Michele Mack on Dec. 10, 1979, in Captiva, FL. He was a retired pastor of the Church of the Brethren.

He was a member of the Church of the Brethren in Garden City, KS.

Survivors include his wife, Michele Elder of Fort Dodge, KS; a daughter, Christian Elder of Fort Dodge, KS; a son, Darius Elder of Littleton, CO; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
