Donald Ernest Fritzsche

Donald Ernest Fritzsche, son of Ernest Edward and Ruth (Little) Fritzsche was born August 9, 1919 at Primghar. He attended country school and later graduated from Primghar High School in 1937. He attended Morningside College in Sioux City receiving a B.S. degree in voice and violin in 1941.

He taught school for a few years before going to Chicago to further his music education. He also studied for a short time at the Julliard School of Music in New York. He returned to the family farm in 1948 and began farming and having a Guernsey dairy herd.

On November 28, 1959, he was united in marriage to Jessie Hadden in Primghar. After their marriage the couple lived on the family farm until moving into Primghar in 1989. In 1992 he moved to Millie's Rest Home in Sutherland for a short time, then moved to the Primghar Care Center. He died there on February 14, 1998 at the age of 78 years, six months and five days.

He was a member of the United Church of Primghar and had served as choir director for many years. He was a former member of the Cherokee Symphony where he played his violin. He was also known in northwest Iowa for his singing in churches and with various groups. He was a member of Rising Star Masonic Lodge of Primghar.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie of Primghar; one son, Gregory and his wife Sharon Fritzsche of Primghar; two daughters, Kimberly and her husband, George Cothren of Fayetteville, TN and Lynn Clark of Decherd, TN; five grandchildren; Joshua and Heather Fritzsche, Ricky Bond and Christopher and Cody Clark; two sisters, Mrs. Lucile Petras of Humboldt and Mrs. Doris Ihde of Crystal Lake, IL; also nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother George and a brother-in-law, Veryl Ihde.
