Pearl Bernice (Nielsen) Protextor, daughter of Harry and Kristine (Frank) Nielsen, was born November 9, 1927 on the family farm near Hartley, Iowa. She lived her youth in the Hartley area and received her education there, graduating from the Hartley Community School. For a short time, Pearl was employed at the Hartley Drug Store.

On November 30, 1947, she was united in marriage to John "Jack" Protextor at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following their marriage, the couple made their home on the Protextor family farm north of Sanborn, Iowa where they raised their three children: Terry, Yvonne and Bonnie.

Pearl was a devoted mother and a partner with Jack on the farm; her life centered around her family and home. She was an excellent seamstress and a wonderful cook. She also loved to bake, and shared lots of good things from the oven with loved ones. Every special family event was topped off with one of Pearl's home-made Angel Food cakes. She enjoyed playing Bingo, or going bowling with friends. At one time, she belonged to a Women's Bowling League in Sanborn. Pearl was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Sanborn.

Jack and Pearl lived their entire married life on the farm. In July of this year, health concerns prompted a move to the Prairie View Inn at Sanborn. Pearl passed peacefully from this life on Monday, August 11, 2014 at the age of 86.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Jack of Sanborn; son Terry (Vicki) Protextor of Iowa City, Iowa; daughter, Yvonne (Doug) Schnoor of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 10 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Bonnie Protextor; sisters: Amelia Nielsen, Betty Klarstrom, Rose Nielsen and Lillian Norton; brothers: Harry Nielsen, Art Nielsen and Chris Nielsen.
