Cecil "Wayne" Nelson (1931-2010)

Cecil "Wayne" Nelson, the son of Cecil Glen and Gladys Edith (Bilsland) Nelson Nelson Nelson, was born on May 26, 1931, at Hartley, Iowa. He spent his childhood years in the Primghar and Royal, Iowa areas, and graduated from Primghar Public High School.

He entered into active duty with the United States Army on February 18, 1952, and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged on December 3, 1953.

He was united in marriage to Della Marie (Wadsworth) Nurse on August 15, 1967 at Bigelow, MN. They made their home on a farm near Royal, Iowa, where they farmed for over 30 years before moving to Hartley, Iowa.

Wayne loved going to auctions, and was an avid collector of antiques with a special interest in clocks and glassware. He enjoyed fishing and pending time with his great-grandsons, Adam and Sam. He loved old western books and programs. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Hartley, the American Legion Post #36 and WW Post #1929, both of Primghar.

Survivors include his wife, Della; two children and their families: Dennis and Denise Nurse of Hartley, and Linda Peters of Mitchell, SD; grandchildren: Michelle Nurse of Merrill, LA and special friend, Brent Peterson of Hartley^ IA, Kara (Terry) Heyn of Sanborn, Iowa, Travis Peters of Brookings, SD, Mike (Donna Lee) Peters of Denver, CO, and Mindy (John) Moreno of Mitchell, SD; seven great grandchildren; two sisters, Edna Koscielak of Des Moines, IA. and Vera Krom of Davis, CA; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, George Koscielak; five other brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law.

Memorial Service was 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 10,2010 at the United Methodist Church, Hartley, Iowa with Rev. Steve Campbell, officiating. Committal Service was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Primghar, Iowa, with military rites by American Legion Post #36 of Primghar, IA and Arthur W. Kirchhoff Post #288 of Hartley, IA Graveside services were held at 10:00 a.m.in Primghar prior to the Memorial Service.
