MRS. LETTIE GABLE
Lettie Gable, the oldest daughter of Perry and Elizabeth Bracken, was born on April 15, 1868, at Story City, Iowa, in Story county.
She was united in marriage to Powell [sic] A. Gable on December 20, 1886. They then moved to a farm six miles south of Hartley where they resided for 27 years. In the spring of 1919 they retired and moved to Hartley. Mr. and Mrs. Gable were privileged to celebrate their golden wedding anniversary on December 20, 1936, and were planning to observe their 60th wedding anniversary when Mr. Gable preceded her in death.
Mrs. Gable passed away on March 4, 1952, at 6:15 at the Hand hospital at the age of 83 years, 11 months, and 11 days. She had been in failing health for several months but death came very unexpectedly.
She leaves to mourn her passing her five children: Bert Gable of Hartley, Mayme Rembe of Gaza, Myrtle Arnold of Medford, Oregon, Libby Gable of Los Angeles, California, and Welthy Albright of Hartley.
Her daughter, Flossy Henspeter, preceded her in death in 1949. She also leaves to mourn her passing 12 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. One grandson, Robert Gable, is serving his country and is stationed at Pu-san, Korea. She also leaves two sisters who reside in Los Angeles, California, one brother-in-law at Spirit Lake, several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Mrs. Gable was a long time member of the Woman's Relief Corps, in which organization she held office She enjoyed attending and serving the organization. Since 1920, she has been a member of the Hartley Methodist church, and was a member of the Women's Society of Christian Services.
Funeral services were conducted Friday afternoon at 1:30 at the house and 2:00 at the Methodist church by her pastor, the Reverend Raymond A. Roloff. Florence Fahlenkamp sang "Going Down the Valley" and "In the Garden", accompanied by Mrs. Harrison Pike who also played other appropriate organ music. Interment was made in the Hartley cemetery. Six of her grandsons acted as pallbearers.
