CHARLES ADOLF
Charles Adolf, the son of George and Susanna Heilman Adolf, was born in Germany June 12, 1876. He passed away at the Hartley Community Memorial Hospital, Tuesday, February 8, 1972 at the age of 95 years, 7 months and 27 days.
He came to this country with his parents, first to Freeport, Illinois, then to LeMars, Iowa, and to the Hartley vicinity around 1890. He was educated in schools near his childhood homes and farmed for a time in the Hartley area. He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ at Hartley and its Brotherhood.
On November 24, 1898 in Baker Township, Osceola County, Iowa, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Schmoll. The couple moved into Hartley about 1905 and she passed away in 1945.
Also preceding him in death were his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. Left to cherish his memory is one sister, Mrs. Ida Graves of Melvin, numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
The last few years of his life were spent in the surroundings at the Mann Memorial Wing of the Hartley Hospital.
Services were held Friday, February 11 from the Trinity United Church of Christ. Rev. B. W. Sayler officiated. Pallbearers were Howard Guenther, Harold Lux, Ernest Wohlert, Henry Baumeister, Wm. Klatt and Robert Hoper. Burial was made in Pleasant View Cemetery, Hartley. Baumgarten Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
