ROBERT ECKHART
Robert Eckhart was born on August 7, 1861, in Holstein, Germany, and passed into eternity on Sept. 7, 1942, at his home in Chokio, Minnesota at the age of 81 years and one month.
He spent the early years of his youth in his native land where he received his early education and was baptised and confirmed in his faith. At the age of 17 he emigrated to the United States and settled on a farm in Tama County, Iowa.
On January 11, 1883 he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Margaret Kalppien, and the young couple resided in Tama county for 9 years. From there they moved to O'Brien county to a farm 2 1/2 miles northwest of Hartley in which territory they resided for 23 years. In 1916 they retired from active life and moved to Chokio, Minnesota, where he was a land owner and a resident of that locality for 26 years.
Immediate relatives left to mourn his passing are his bereaved widow and eight children, namely Mrs. Minnie Scheldorf, Chokio; Mrs. Wm. Eger, Chokio; Mrs. Chris Baumgarn, Chokio; Harry Eckhart, Chokio; Mrs. Aug. Ahrens, Morris; Mrs. Albert Dresler, Chatfield; Mrs. Wm. Guhl, Hartley; Frank Eckhart, Hartley.
Two sons preceded him in death. They were Walter, who died in France in the World War I, and the other passed away in infancy.
Twenty-three grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren, plus a host of more distant relatives and friends mourn his passing.
Services were held at Chokio on last Wednesday morning with the Rev. Vagts of Chokio presiding and at Hartley at 1:00 p. m. with the Rev. Paul Wiebem of Remsen officiating.
