Herman Fr Hoger

Not only the old and feeble, but also such that are in the prime of life and apparently strong must answer the summons of death, as is evidenced by the comparatively early demise of Mr. Herman Fr Hoger. Those who knew him only casually would hardly have suspected that he was ailing and until he was afflicted with heart disease, he enjoyed vigorous health. The malady, which was diagnosed about two years ago, caused him much suffering. Medical aid relieved him to some extenet, but he was no longer able to go about his work as he had been accustomed to. In January of this year, he suffered another acuta attack which confined him to the house for the greater part of the winter. For a time he was again able to leave his home, but the improvement was only temporary. Complications set in and his condition became alarming. Medical aid and the most careful nursing of no avail. His appointed hour had come. May 25th, he departed this life, having attained an age of 56 years, 11 months and 15 days.

Herman Fr. Hoger was the son of Julius Hoger and Dorothea, nee Koehlmoos. He was born June 10, 1876, in Town Rich, Cook county, Ill. The father of his surviving widow being the Lutheran pastor of that place, baptized, and in 1889, conformed him. About 1900 he came to Iowa and since that time, he has been will known in this community.

In 1902, he established his own household, being united in holy wedlock with Mis Dora Siemsglusz. About 1912 he acquired a farm two miles north of Germantown and on it spent the rest of his life, providing for his family and serving the community to the best of his ability.

The year 1918 was a trying year for Mr. Hoger. The flu, which was raging at that time, robbed him of his wife and a few weeks later, of his eldest son, Herman. Octobr 19, 1920, he again entered holy wedlock with Mrs. Rosa Daniels, nee Hieber. Two sons from his first marriage and one from the second survive him with the bereaved widow.

Mr. Hoger was a sincere Christian. He was reared in the Lutheran church and, upon coming to Iowa, he united with St. John's Ev. Lutheran church of Germantown and remained a devoted member of the same until his death.

Saturday, May 27, his mortal remains were laid to rest on St. John's Ev. Lutheran cemetry, Germantown. Relatives from several states were in attendance. The large attendance of the members of the church of which he was a member, is evidence of the high esteem in which he was held.

His demise is mourned by his sorrowing widow, three sons, Edwin, Albert and Elias, one stepson, Arthur Daniels, one stepdaughter, Mrs. Eleonora Hinz, his aged father, five brothers, seven sisters, and numerous other relatives and friends.
