Services held for Elmer Herzberg

Elmer Herzberg, 81, of Marcus died Sunday, January 19, 1997, at St. Luke's Medical Center in Sioux City.

Services were at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 1997, at St. John's Lutheran Church in German-town with Rev. Steven Hayden officiating. Burial was in the St. John's Cemetery, under the direction of the Earnest and Roethler Funeral Chapel of Marcus. Pallbearers were Lonnie Gries, Lonnie Puhrmann, Ron Gries, Rick Gries, Scott Gnes, Jadrien Irwin, Luke Irwin and Jeremy Suva.

OBITUARY

Mr. Herzberg was bom March 7, 1915, at Clarinda, Iowa. He was the son of Martin and Emma. (Wehrkamp) Herzberg. He grew up and attended school in the Clarinda area and moved to the Germantown area as a young adult.

He married Leona Kruse on February 25, 1940, at Germantown. They farmed for many years in the Paullina and Germantown area. They moved to Marcus in 1966, where he did income tax preparation and was in charge of scheduling of the senior citizens mini-bus.

Mrs. Herzberg died in 1990.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and had held several different church offices. He had sung in the church choir, was an avid dart ball player and member of Lutheran Laymans League

Survivors include four daughters: Karen and her husband, Marlin Gries; Eileen and her husband, Joe Irwin, all of Marcus; Jan and her husband, Rodger Wolfe of Omaha, Nebraska; and Linda and her husband, Ron Suva of Morse Bluff, Nebraska; four brothers: La Verne and his wife, Eunice Herzberg of Wichita, Kansas; Earl and his wife. Feme Herzberg of Clarinda, Iowa; Delbert and his wife, Viola Herzberg of Clarinda, Iowa; and Lawrence and his wife, Jeanne Herzberg of Creston, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren: many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
