Thursday morning the sad news spread in town that Mrs. Carl Gaudian had passed away during the night. She had been in poor health for quite some time. She was laid to rest ln the Germantown cemetery on Saturday, the Rev J Hartmelster officiating at the burial.

Johanna Augusta Emilie Karo was born in a place of West Prussia called Schoenwerda, Dec. 18, 1869 She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of her home community There she also grew to young womanhood.

At the age of 22, June 7, 1891, she was married to Carl Gaudian, who had just finished his military service in the German army They were married at Limbach in Saxony, Germany

In 1898 the Gaudians left Germany and settled on a farm ln the Meriden neighborhood. They affiliated with the Lutheran church at the Mill Creek, at the present time served by one Rev. C. H. Pauling of Sutherland. Later they lived In the Germantown community and became members of St. John's church there. In the year 1927 they retired from active farming and took their residence in the town of Paullina. Since then they have been members of Zion Lutheran church here. Mrs. Gaudian was faithful in her church attendance and other activities. Until recently she was a member of the Ladles Aid. The last several months she was not able to attend church anymore, but she always enjoyed and appreciated the Pastor's visits at her home.

She leaves to mourn her departure besides her sorrowing husband four married daughters, Mrs. Hermann Hattermann, Mrs. Elizabeth Pauling, Mrs. Helen Ebel, Mrs. Esther Fegebank, and three sons, Carl Jr., William, Ernest and seventeen grandchildren. Her age was 68 years, nine months, and 25 days.
