1865 CARL GAUDIAN SR. 1964

Carl Gaudian Sr. son of August Gaudian and Wilhemina nee Prill was born, on July 3, 1865 in Vess Pruessen, Germany. He was baptized, confirmed and educated in Germany. It was in the period of time from 1881-1882 he served in the German army under the Kaiser.

On June 5, 1891 he was married to Augusta Karo. To them nine children were born. In the year 1898 they migrated to the United States settling in the Paullina area. Carl spent most of his life farming in this area, retiring in the year 1929 when they moved to Paullina.

Carl served as janitor for the Zion Lutheran church in Paullina for a period of 10 years. About six years ago Carl entered the Cooper nursing home in Sutherland. This continued to be his home until March 3 when he was admitted to Ward Memorial Hospital in Primghar where he died on Friday noon, March 6 at the age of 98 years, 8 months and 3 days.

He is survived by his sons Carl and Ernest of Paullina, his daughter, Elizabeth, Mrs. Carl Pauling of Harris, Iowa, Helen Mrs. William Ebel of Paullina, Esther, Mrs. Arthur Fegebank of Paullina.

His wife, parents, two daughters and two sons preceded him in death. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren; by one brother, Albert of Paullina, and one sister, Mrs. William Jaacks of Paullina.

Burial was in St. John cemetery following services held at 2:00 in St. John Lutheran church, Germantown, March 9, 1964.
