Henry Carl Witte passed away suddenly February 20, 1962 in the home of his daughter Mrs. Ralph Hanson at Peterson, Iowa. Ho had been under doctor's care since his initial heart attack October 29, 1961, when he entered Sioux Valley Hospital at Cherokee for rest and observation for three weeks.

Mr. Witte was born September 17, 1889 in Hanstedt, Gemany. His parents were John Frederick Heinrich and Katherine Magdalene Elizabeth Witte. He had reached the age of 72 years, five months, and three days. His schooling was completed in Germany with further courses in English in the United States. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. Mr. Witte came to the United Sates in December 1905, and settled near Paullina.

On February 18, 1814, he was united in marriage to Lena Louise Muckler at Primghar, Iowa. The first year of their married life was spent fanning near Cleghorn, later farming near Paullina from which he retired and moved his family to Peterson in 1939, and entered business for a few years. Preceeding him in death were his wife Lena in 1946, his parents John and Katherine of Germany, four brothers and two sisters.

Left to cherish his memory are his five children, Mardelle, (Mrs. Ralph Hansen), Peterson, Florence (Mrs. Gregory Snider) Alton, Helen (Mrs. Reginald Anderson) Chicago, Illinois; Irvin, Laurens and Eleanor (Mrs. Lloyd Raveling) Storm Lake, twelve grandchildren, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church at Peterson Friday afternoon, February 23, at 2 o'clock with the Rev. Allan Stowell in charge, directed by the Baumgarten Funeral Home. Mrs. Ralph Flagman, soloist, sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Jesus I Come." Mrs, Melvin Fastenow was organist Pallbearers were Willard Kracht, Walter Berg, Merle Larson, Elvin Laursen, Byron Reed, Melvin Stief. Burial was in Prairie View cemetery at Paullina.
